one of The Girl's friends told her that she gets alot of her clothes from the thrift store. so of course, my daughter wanted to check it out and see what it's all about.
when we got to Goodwill, i explained the half-off colored tag system and she embarked on her thrift shopping adventure.
not even five minutes later, she came back and said, "what about this, mom?!!"

this is exactly what i needed when i created this celebrity inspired look.
i've never shopped at Chico's, but the stuff i see advertised on their tv commercials looks nice. lots of color, textures, and patterns. there wasn't a similar item on their website, however i did find denim jackets starting at $99.
i'd choose my thrifted price over their regular price any day.

when i did Redbook's 30 Days of Outfits challenge, i told you i had my eye on a cute lil' blazer from JCP. since then, i've seen so many outfits i'd like to try. problem: jackets required.
solution to the problem: this checkered number

this one didn't come from Goodwill. i scooped it up at our second stop. the small store i came across a couple of months ago. i still don't know the name of it and it's not printed on the receipt.
if i'd gone strictly by the size on the label, i would've passed it up. it's a 6P. good thing i decided to try it on.
it's fitted, but not too snug. at some point, the shoulder pads were cut out. something you can't detect just by looking at it. i googled Michelle Stuart (who it's made by), but didn't find anything new. everything was being sold as vintage. i can't confirm or deny if this piece truly falls into that category.
any two ways about it - i'm certain it was at least 10 times the amount i paid for it when it was new with tags.

i gave myself a $10 spending allowance and i went over. i also got a sleeveless Ralph Lauren top. it's on the top shelf of my closet. worn and waiting to be washed.
all together i spent $13.57. that's not bad. not bad at all.
You really work the discount thing...I love it. Chico's has very nice clothing, but it can be pricey.
ReplyDeletethanks, buddy...i love it! the key is to make sure you don't buy stuff just for the sake of buying it, because it's inexpensive. boundaries. gotta have em.
DeleteYou are surely a woman of my own heart. I strongly believe in never buying anything full price. If it's not on clearance, with a coupon, or second-hand, I will not purchase. I recently came across a pair of Cache jeans at the goodwill store for $6. If you don't already know jeans at Cache are easily $100 plus. Unfortunately, the pants weren't in my size so I couldn't purchase it but it's still a good find.
ReplyDeletethere are some things i'll buy regular price, but it's certainly not the norm for me. that sounds like a good deal...i'm sure somebody scooped em up.
Deleteyou are working the deals!!! yet another reminder that i need to get with thrift shopping.
ReplyDeletei'm thrilled about my rekindled relationship with thrift shopping! get out and get you some deals...share em on your blog too!
